In this excellent list of non-patriarchal life events that deserve to be celebrated, I would like to add becoming post-menopausal, aka 'croning' ceremonies. It's the beginning of a whole new chapter of a woman's life, not the end of the (ageist, sexist, pronatalist, patriarchal) story :)

A croning ceremony sounds glorious!!! I love reading and listening to your work and ideas on croning Jody. It makes me excited to age

Such a good post, thank you for this. My personal one, as a single millennial constantly fighting increasing rents in the big city, is that I'm about to move in to a one-bedroom apartment all by myself!

Yes to this! I have been musing on throwing a women's gathering when I hit the magic one year menopause marker 😃🥳

Thank you for reading Vicki! Throw the gathering! We need to be marking that occasion, like Jody says above, its the start of a whole new life chapter, certainly something worth celebrating.

I don’t know but I’m here for it! And all these parties will have a 9pm finish time :)

I love this! YES! If the mood is right, I send my friends congratulations cards for separations and divorces. You are absolutely right that we are lazy and boring in the milestones we celebrate.

Great article. I would like to celebrate the day the hairdresser cut the last strands of dyed hair off my head and declared me 'totally natural'. I was 50 and I felt liberated. My mum is 80 and still dyes her hair (we are a strange pair to look at, the daughter with grey hair and the mum with dark locks). I don't have anything against hair dyeing ( I did it since I was 16) but I couldn't wait to embrace this next part of my life.

Thank for reading Rebecca, it means the world and I’m glad you liked it!

I LOVE women that embrace their greys! I can imagine how liberating that must have felt. A big F you to sexist beauty standards too, a fantastic thing to celebrate 🙌🏻

Thanks Katie… yes a F to those impossible (and profit inducing) beauty standards. Liberation for women from all the ‘standards’ of this patriarchal society. I’m doing it my way. Glad you are doing it yours too. 🙌
